EXPERTISE

  • Structural engineering: finite element analysis, seismic evaluation, fragility analysis, and design peer review

  • Geotechnical earthquake engineering: soil profile simulation, site response analysis

  • Soil-structure interaction (SSI) analysis

  • Seismic probabilistic risk assessment (SPRA)

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Alidad co-founded HE3 in January 2019. Since inception he has been involved as structural engineer, peer reviewer, and structural analyst in several structural design and evaluation projects and comprehensive seismic risk analyses. His experiences include commercial buildings, nuclear structures, high-rise buildings, and educational campuses.

Between 2013 and 2020, as a lecturer, Alidad taught a number of graduate courses in UC Berkeley, civil engineering department, SEMM group including the Design of Prestressed Concrete Structures, Stochastic Structural Dynamics, and Finite Element Analysis.

Before founding HE3, Alidad was at Bechtel's San Francisco office for 12 years where he was responsible for developing the technical approach and methodology and performing structural and geotechnical analyses, developing formal calculations, reports, and licensing documents, and making professional presentations for client and regulatory bodies and peer review committees. Alidad's previous projects include:

  • Site response and SSI analysis of a deeply embedded nuclear SMR (BWRX-300)

  • Seismic risk analysis for buildings, concrete dams, hydro and gas power stations, and educational campuses

  • SPRA for new and existing nuclear power plants including North Anna Power Station Units 1 and 2

  • Structural and SSI analysis and equipment response evaluations for new and existing nuclear structures

  • Licensing permit applications for several nuclear power plants including North Anna Unit 3
